City Walk: coffee, long evenings and favourite stops in Plovdiv
Follow the city at its warmest, liveliest and most wonderfully unhurried.

May brought us back to a city we’d been missing: Plovdiv.
There are new openings to discover and familiar addresses to return to. Cobbled streets lead to places for movement, balance and everyday rituals, including the small but essential pleasure of a good coffee. Along the way, other stops draw you further into the City of the Hills. Warm weather makes it all too easy to linger on terraces and in courtyards, letting the day decide where to go next. Art, food, activity and quiet moments share a pace that draws you in and makes leaving difficult. Our plan for the weekend? Put the schedule away and follow the city.
Casa di Fratelli

Casa di Fratelli feels like a second home for anyone who takes pleasure seriously. Here, flavour starts with fire. The grill gives the food character; golden-crusted pizza announces itself before you reach the door; pasta is made fresh, soft and supple.
The classics move comfortably between Bulgarian cooking and European influences.
It all fits. No wonder evenings in the cosy garden run longer than planned. The wine list does its bit to encourage another hour at the table. That’s why we return whenever we’re in Plovdiv.

EDEN

EDEN takes both food and atmosphere seriously. Its interior suggests a contemporary Garden of Eden, with a hint of history and plenty of natural light. The spacious summer garden offers a welcome retreat on warm city evenings. The menu described in our May selection puts fresh, seasonal ingredients first,
with the kitchen aiming to make each plate a pleasure.
Among the dishes that caught our eye were carefully cooked fish, prawns with a citrus dressing to pair with chilled wine, and the restaurant’s own truffle pasta. There’s also a large on-site car park, taking one small complication out of the evening.

Flavorite

Flavorite is an address to remember when hunger strikes. It began near the university, with another spot following by the Roman Stadium. Hawaiian influences and American inspiration shape the menu.
Poké bowls take a deconstructed-sushi approach, with chicken, fish
and seafood among the options. The crispy chicken bowl is a favourite. Flavorite’s interest in food and fitness extends to sporting events and gym partnerships. For something different, try the açaí smoothie bowl: a little taste of Brazil, spoon by spoon.

Next Level

If Plovdiv were to acquire another hill, this one might be built from good habits rather than stone. Next Level brings light, space and Technogym equipment to the city’s fitness scene.
The two locations in this selection offer spacious cardio areas with equipment for different levels,
functional training areas for strength and movement, and boxing spaces for first attempts or serious rounds. Group classes and children’s sessions for ages six to 13 add to the programme. Sauna and steam-room facilities offer somewhere to slow down afterwards, while the protein bar serves a pre- or post-workout stop. Check facilities and class availability at your chosen club.

No Sense has stayed true to its chameleon character. A long-established Plovdiv bar with several generations of regulars, it can change its appearance without losing its personality.
It takes its cue from Kapana and the night, moving between pop, rock,
house and R&B. Alongside its sports-bar credentials, No Sense has a lively party programme with guest DJs. The craft beer deserves attention too. Check the current listings before choosing your evening.

Patriki belongs on any leisurely route through Plovdiv. The small boutique restaurant has found its way into the city’s heart, both through its central address and through an atmosphere that manages to be refined and cosy. Balance, seasonality and pleasure guide the kitchen.
Familiar local recipes become dishes that invite a fresh look.
The ingredients follow the season. Our May selection featured roasted pumpkin with stracciatella, prawn tacos and cheesecake with mango coulis. Add a glass of wine in the summer garden and there’s every reason to linger. Check the current menu for what’s cooking now.

Supa Bar

Some places don’t need to be planned into the day. You simply find yourself back there. Supa Bar is one of them. Familiar from Sofia, it has become a natural stop on our Plovdiv route too. Everything begins with the ingredients:
seasonal vegetables, regional flavours and Bulgarian meat,
chosen with care. The menu changes daily, bringing a selection of soups alongside mains, salads and desserts. If there’s no time to sit down, delivery is another option. Check the day’s menu and the service available at your address.

Utro by Mayriges

In the heart of Kapana, UTRO makes room for slow mornings,
good coffee and comforting food. A proper breakfast is a fine way to open the day; a leisurely brunch gives you even more reason to stay. The cosy surroundings help with both.

Saborna 23

In Old Plovdiv, Saborna 23 makes history part of the evening. Housed in a Bulgarian National Revival-era building with a long and romantic story,
the restaurant brings together an elegant interior, a sense of privacy
and a terrace looking towards Kapana. There are two floors, a tucked-away room for special occasions and Bulgarian cooking with contemporary touches.

Bistro Blyan

When two chefs choose the music and the lighting as carefully as the dishes, dinner starts to feel like a composition. Warmth, quiet and care shape Blyan’s approach, with seasonality and intuition setting the pace. It’s for evenings when the experience matters as much as what’s on the plate.
The spring selection included “Dew in the First Rays of Spring”, with buckwheat, quail’s egg and herbs;
fresh pasta called “Where the Forest Meets the Field”; and “Forest Reverie with the Scent of Pine”, with sage, pine honey and white chocolate. Blyan remains a personal project, changing with the season and the people who sit down to eat. Ask about the current menu.

Dara Bara

Dara Bara unfolds slowly, like a cappuccino with plenty to discover beneath the surface. Beside the Society of Plovdiv Artists on Gladston Street, it belongs to a corner of the city long associated with its bohemian life.
The smell of freshly baked, soft croissants,
sandwiches and coffee travels beyond the door. Inside, books line the shelves, each capable of starting a different conversation. Industrial details set the scene; freshness guides the food. All that’s left is to settle in and talk about life.

Shevitsa Restaurant

Among Kapana’s cobbled streets, Shevitsa takes Bulgarian tradition and gives it a contemporary city setting. The idea runs through the cooking, the atmosphere and the small details.
The past and present meet here
in a plate, an aroma or a familiar flavour seen differently. The name refers to Bulgarian embroidery, with its interwoven symbols, memory and identity. The menu follows a similar thread, drawing on the Rhodopes and the Bulgarian family table while leaving room for unexpected interpretations.

TeataRa

TeataRa raises the curtain in the courtyard of Plovdiv’s Drama Theatre. Art, design and cooking share the stage. The menu draws on fresh produce from local farms and combines Bulgarian and European influences, while Angel Tumbev brings his own character to the cocktails.
Live music and visiting performers are part of the programme.
Check the current dates before booking. The restaurant also offers catering for private occasions. With dinner unfolding in the open-air courtyard, it’s easy to see why the theatre provides more than an address.
