Restaurants with lunch menus in Sofia

Everyone loves a good lunch menu.

Stepping away from your to-do list for something fresh and delicious is one of the small comforts of a working day. Seasonal dishes, familiar favourites, a chef's own take on a lunchtime classic: Sofia's restaurants have plenty of good answers to the daily question, 'What's for lunch?' We've picked eight addresses where the lunch menu is reason enough to leave your desk and eat well.

ADOR Restaurant

ADOR Restaurant

When the working day gathers pace, a good lunch gives you a chance to slow down and put the daily demands on hold. ADOR, at InterContinental Sofia, serves a weekly lunch menu from noon to 3pm, bringing together seasonal ingredients, quality produce and carefully considered flavours. Think fragrant soups, fresh salads and tempting mains.

There's enough variety to make a proper occasion of your lunch break.

Right in the heart of Sofia, the restaurant works just as well for a business meeting as it does for lunch with friends or colleagues. The view of the historic National Assembly building and St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a particular pleasure, adding a little grandeur to the middle of your day.

KISH-MISH

Kish-Mish

Life's too short, and lunch breaks certainly are, for a dull lunch. At Kish-Mish, the menu can turn an ordinary Tuesday into a small culinary adventure. Lunch here is more than another item on the schedule: it's a chance to swap the chatter for something worth eating. We've already tried the star of the menu, dolmades filled with chopped pork, rice, leeks and aromatic spices, served with avgolemono sauce. There are plenty of other reasons to stop by. Baba ganoush with roasted cauliflower, tahini and pomegranate, or a spanakopita salad with crisp filo and feta, make a fine start. Beef and lamb moussaka offers a fresh take on a familiar favourite, while roasted cauliflower with Greek yoghurt, tahini-peanut cream with miso, and Urfa pepper makes a convincing case for vegetables taking the lead.

Seafood lovers can order spaghetti with octopus, prawns and squid.

There's warm lahmacun straight from the oven, too. Save room for baklava with pistachios and rose jam. Sometimes the best lunchtime escape fits neatly between two meetings and a few good plates.

PADRE LUNCH CLUB

Padre Lunch Club

Who says lunch has to be a rushed routine? Padre Lunch Club brings something different to the lunch break every weekday from noon to 3pm. Launched in the summer, the concept brings together modern bistro cooking, urban comfort food and flavours from around the world.

Everything is made in-house, from freshly baked bread and the meat dishes to sauces, marinades and glazes. Tarator

Tarator on Hristo Botev Boulevard

Every good food story begins with a first bite. For Tarator, that happened at 117 Hristo Botev Boulevard, where its first spot opened in 2023. Behind it are two people with years of restaurant experience who finally decided to create a kitchen on their own terms. Lunch here gets the attention it deserves. Every weekday, the kitchen prepares soups, mains, salads, desserts and, of course, tarator.

No all-purpose seasoning mixes, flavour enhancers or shortcuts.

The flavour comes from the ingredients and the way they're cooked. Sit down to eat or pick something up for the office. You may like your lunch so much that you leave with dinner, too.

Tarator on Solunska

Tarator on Solunska Street

This summer, Sofia found another way to cool down. Tarator opened its second address, giving us a new stop for something refreshing in the heat. The interior is modern and welcoming, and the commitment to good, honest food is unchanged. Every detail has been considered.

The new spot has a character of its own, with the flavours you already know.

Expect cooked dishes, soups, salads and several varieties of tarator in the signature bottles, ready to take around town. Stop in for lunch, pick something up for the office or head home with dinner under your arm. The address may have its own personality, but the recipe for good food remains the same.

Gostilnitsa Blyan

Gostilnitsa Blyan

Who says a home-style lunch means going home? Over in Lyulin, Gostilnitsa Blyan makes that wish come true from lunchtime through to dinner. Grandmother's recipes meet fresh ideas, and a young team gives tradition a new lease of life. The menu changes every day, with fragrant soups, sandwiches, fresh salads, vegetarian dishes and homemade desserts.

The carefully chosen ingredients include organic beef from a farm in Lopyan,

a village tucked into the mountains near Etropole. Everything is made in-house, and the open kitchen keeps none of its delicious secrets behind closed doors. Saturdays are reserved for brunch. There's your excuse to make lunch last a little longer.

OBED.

OBED.

Some days, the lunch break is the only island of calm in your calendar. At OBED., Lyuben and Stefan know how to turn it into a delicious escape. The two chefs put their faith in good ingredients, a homely atmosphere and food that doesn't need a lengthy explanation to win you over.

Just picture their juicy meatballs with crisp potatoes, bacon and onion.

That should tell you where their culinary hearts lie. A good lunch here is a small daily ritual, rather than a luxury. And when an occasion calls for a bigger table, OBED. also offers catering. The same care and flavour, with more people to share them.

Staria Chinar

Staria Chinar

Moussaka is back in fashion. Did it ever really go out? At Staria Chinar, the lunch menu is built around good ingredients and home-style recipes: fried meatballs with bean salad, moussaka and stuffed peppers made with Angus beef minced in-house. Soups simmer with the kitchen's own stocks, without powdered substitutes. There's a choice of meat dishes, with an emphasis on beef, fresh fish at least twice a week, and a meat-free or entirely plant-based option every day. Consistent flavours come with

variety, thoughtful cooking and good service.

The cosy setting is a bonus, and another reason to come back for lunch tomorrow.
