A mountain weekend is a good summer plan

Some weekends call for a change of scenery. A little forest quiet will do nicely.

Borovets is a place we keep coming back to.

We love the beach, but swapping city noise for pine trees has its own appeal. Lion Borovets sits in a quieter part of the resort and welcomes guests throughout the year. You can make a proper break of it without filling every hour with plans.

Let the season set the pace. A walk in the forest might be all you want from the day; a trip higher into Rila takes more preparation. Check the weather, trail conditions and the resort’s current lift information before choosing a route. Afterwards, where you return to matters.

Lion Borovets sits in one of the resort’s quieter areas,

among old pine trees, away from the busiest streets. The forest setting does much of the work: open the curtains, take your time and let the morning begin slowly.

If a good break includes doing very little, the wellness centre should appeal. The hotel lists an indoor pool, saunas, steam rooms and an outdoor wellness area with a hot tub. That last option sounds especially appealing

particularly in the evening, with cool air and pine forest around you.

Food is close at hand, too. The main restaurant offers buffet and à la carte options, while the traditional tavern serves Bulgarian dishes. The lobby bar works well for a coffee or a glass of wine; in warmer weather, the summer terrace looks out towards the forest.

For families, the hotel offers studios and apartments as well as rooms. Ask for a quote for your party and dates, including any children. For a special occasion, there’s the Alpine apartment,

spacious, with panoramic Rila views and a feeling of having the mountain to yourself for a few days.

Forest walks, time in the wellness centre and an unhurried dinner: sometimes that’s enough of a plan. Check room availability and current arrangements on the hotel’s website, then give yourself a weekend with a little more breathing room.
