Shade in the City: Sofia’s Loveliest Summer Gardens, Part II
Somewhere cool for every occasion

Time for another helping of shade,
something we all crave in the summer heat. Here’s the second part of our pick of favourite gardens, each a little oasis in its own right. Whether you’re after a traditional Bulgarian restaurant, a morning coffee with a friend or somewhere for Friday-night drinks, there’s an address for the occasion. Let’s step out of the sun and into the garden.
Regale Bar & Terrace

Some places are for morning coffee. Others are for an after-work cocktail. Regale Bar & Terrace refuses to choose. Open from 08:00 to 01:00, it changes mood with the day, moving from early meetings and afternoon breaks to late-night toasts.
In the evening, the terrace catches the best of the sunset,
while the bar comes into its own with original cocktails and confident mixology. Fridays bring a DJ and live saxophone from 20:00, with free entry, and the new late-dining menu keeps things going until 23:30. Some places simply know how to be the right choice, whatever the hour.

Souterrain Bar

Souterrain Bar has long earned its place in Sofia’s nightlife, but summer brings a different mood to its garden. It combines the energy of a central address with an easy escape from the noise. Evenings here feel quieter and more leisurely, as though someone has stopped the clock.
Cocktails, music and a low-key atmosphere work beautifully together.
Expect long conversations, good company and the rare luxury of nobody being in a hurry. Sofia needs places like this: a little tucked away, yet lively enough to keep drawing you back.

Tipsy Cafe & Bar

The garden at Tipsy Cafe & Bar gets the balance right: lively without being noisy, relaxed enough to make you stay far longer than planned.
This is somewhere you can properly unwind.
The atmosphere is easy, conversation flows, and coffee, cocktails and an informal menu make it just as good for an afternoon break as a long evening out. Tipsy offers city comforts and plenty to smile about: a pleasant setting, well-chosen music and the sort of mood that makes another round seem like a very good idea.

V.Bar

Afternoons pass slowly in V.Bar’s courtyard garden, then evening arrives before you’ve noticed. Soft colours, gentle lighting and a sense of calm gradually push the city into the background.
Original cocktails set the mood,
and the kitchen takes it from there. Start with a signature drink by master mixologist Tihomir Grozdev, then explore the Iberian-inspired flavours on chef Emiliyan Andreev’s menu. The refreshed interior retains V.Bar’s polished city character, but the garden is where you’ll want to linger over lunch, a cocktail or an aperitif that turns into a long dinner.

Vino & Tapas

A warm evening in the garden, a glass of wine and a conversation that makes the hours disappear: Vino & Tapas is made for these moments. This welcoming wine bar brings enthusiasts together in a cosy setting, with
themed evenings devoted to their favourite drink.
Spread over two floors, it offers intimate spaces for private events and wine tastings, plus a summer garden for evenings outdoors. Upstairs, a special menu rounds out the experience.

Lampata, Crystal Garden

Lampata at 123 Georgi S. Rakovski Street is one of those Sofia addresses that always feels alive and invites you to join in. Beside Crystal Garden, it shares the neighbourhood’s rhythm of passing people, late meet-ups and a city that never quite goes to sleep. Its summer garden is a natural part of that scene.
Somehow, it always brings the right people together.
Come for coffee by day or a quiet conversation over wine or cocktails after dark. If you’re looking for a city spot with character, lovely food and good drinks, Lampata by the much-loved Crystal Garden is a strong contender.

Lampata , Lozenets

Lampata in Lozenets moves at its own, gentler pace and makes staying feel entirely natural. Its hidden summer garden holds plenty of memories, with room for more familiar faces. Everything happens easily here: morning coffee becomes lunch, which quite often ends with an evening drink.
The space feels comfortable and quietly indulgent,
a combination that’s becoming rarer in our noisy capital. The menu follows suit: varied, satisfying and full of seasonal choices. But the real strength of Lampata in Lozenets is its atmosphere, calm, green and welcoming enough to become your regular summer spot.

Punchetata

Next stop is Punchetata, where food and atmosphere seem perfectly in tune. This garden has collected countless Sofia stories, memorable meals and happy toasts. Time follows different rules here, and warm hospitality comes with
the cool shade you’ve been dreaming of in the heat of the city.
The space is generous and full of life. Seasonal cooking, classic flavours and contemporary interpretations make the menu worth returning for throughout the year.

Niagara Restaurants

Niagara’s restaurants are classic city refuges for good food, a little peace and a long, happy meal. Across several Sofia addresses, this established name knows how to make summer comfortable. Try the welcoming, spacious garden at 2 Doyran Street, or settle into the branches at 140 Tsar Simeon Street and 4 Obikolna Street.
Whichever you choose, the setting does its part
to help you make the most of your time. The gardens are lush with greenery, making it remarkably easy to forget the traffic nearby. They invite proper conversation, while the broad menu ranges from the fresh catch of the day to carefully selected meat dishes. Come with a big group, celebrate a family occasion outdoors or let an evening drift between a perfectly chosen white wine and dessert.
Staria Chinar

Some restaurants do more than serve food: they invite you into their shade. The newest member of the Staria Chinar family sits in a cool grove near the centre, with a garden, parking and a children’s play area that make arriving easy and leaving rather harder. Inside, city style meets the kind of warmth that has you relaxing before you’ve ordered.
The menu keeps Staria Chinar’s familiar character,
drawing on authentic Bulgarian recipes. Expect dishes cooked in the oven and over charcoal, fresh Black Sea fish, beef specialities and a broad range of flavours. It works for celebrations, lunch, a romantic dinner or simply a day when you want something that tastes home-cooked. And the hospitality feels less like a service standard than an old Sofia habit of making every guest feel at home.
