Six places to get away, with or without an occasion

If you’ve been waiting for someone to say you deserve a break, take this as your cue.

Book some time away. Occasion or no occasion, there’s pleasure in finding somewhere you can stop thinking about the daily routine and enjoy the landscape, a spa or a particularly comfortable hotel. Whether you need a weekend base, a team retreat or accommodation for wedding guests, this selection looks beyond Sofia. Between the rooms, golf, wine-inspired treatments and food worth lingering over, there are several ways to make the stay your own. Spring gave us the original excuse to pack a bag. The addresses are worth keeping, with availability and services to confirm for your dates.

Casa Deniso

Casa Deniso makes an immediate impression. Sea and mountain views appear from the rooms, the pool and the restaurant. Food, a bar and space to relax are all on site, so leaving needn’t be high on the agenda.

“The home of chill” is a fitting description.

The Italian restaurant Mare Monti, developed with chef Leo Bianchi, gives the stay a culinary focus of its own. Dinner is part of the reason to come, rather than an afterthought. Casa Deniso suits a break where you can slow down without constantly planning the next thing.

Hyatt Regency Pravets Resort

Beside the lake, Pravets offers a change of pace from Sofia. Stylish rooms look towards the water and the mountain,

while a choice of restaurants and bars gives the day several possible directions.

Among the dining addresses is Pier On The Lake, with a focus on seasonal seafood. Add a spa and golf to the possibilities; ask the hotel about introductory golf sessions and whether they are included in your stay. Nearby Bulgaria Land offers another perspective on the country through miniature landmarks.

Dom na Alpinista

At Dom na Alpinista, the setting shapes the stay. The Vrattsata cliffs rise in front of you, making it difficult not to stop and look. Contemporary rooms put comfort first, with terraces among the options. Molton Brown toiletries add a small touch of luxury. Vrattsata restaurant is central to the experience.

The menu follows the seasons, giving familiar flavours a contemporary interpretation.

The cooking is intended to complement its setting. There’s a welcoming lobby for slower moments and a compact wellness area with a sauna, steam room and ice bucket. It’s an address for a short break when you want nature, quiet and a little space around you.

Katarzyna Hotel

Katarzyna Hotel’s connection with the region’s wine culture runs through the stay. The rooms are spacious, with soft natural light and views over the vineyards,

while contemporary interiors pick up references to wine.

The restaurant follows the same approach, with its cooking designed around Katarzyna Estate’s wines, including the Le series. Pairings are carefully judged, and the spa adds treatments and a calm setting to the visit. It’s a place with room to slow down.

At the boutique winery, try limited-release wines

made from the estate’s vineyards in the region. Tastings, tasting lunches and themed wine dinners are part of the offering; check the current programme for your dates. In the spa, wine-inspired treatments sit alongside massages, beauty treatments and contemporary wellness facilities.

Belchin Spring Spa Complex

Sometimes you need a pause more than a weekend plan. Belchin Spring offers that possibility at the foot of Rila, close enough to the city to reach easily and far enough from its rhythm to feel different.

With year-round stays among the possibilities,

with mineral-water pools and mornings that can begin on the furnished veranda of a boutique house or guest villa. Nearby Tsari Mali Grad adds a historical stop to the stay. A restaurant, summer bar, lobby bar and sports facilities give groups plenty of options, making it a possible setting for a team retreat or private occasion. Ask about the facilities and services operating on your dates. Getting people out of the city can change the conversation.
