City Walk: Bansko beyond the slopes, part 1
Good food, coffee, design and a comfortable bed, all in one mountain wander.

There has long been more to Bansko than skiing and après-ski.
It’s a town to explore slowly, with curiosity and an appetite. Restaurants and bars with character, boutique hotels, speciality coffee and places where you simply stop and think, “Yes, I like it here.” Begin with good coffee and mountain light, make time for a proper lunch or a long walk, and finish with something strong in your glass and Pirin in view.
This selection brings together a few favourite stops
for a mountain stay with more flavour, a little style and less hurry. These places have a rhythm of their own: warm, assured and comfortable in their surroundings. Put on some sensible shoes and give the schedule a rest. It’s not a long route, but there’s plenty worth stopping for.
Alpen Restaurant

At the foot of Pirin, Alpen brings the mountains and Italy into one kitchen. Behind the menu is Georgi Ermenkov,
a chef by profession and a culinary traveller by inclination,
whose experience includes kitchens in France, among them Mascaret. On the menu, look for venison meatballs cacciatore, Iberico secreto, Balkan trout and plenty of other reasons to stay for dinner. Drop in.

Bar Canto

Bar Canto takes its drinks seriously. The cocktails mix house creations with classics, the whisky has age behind it and everything is poured with care. The selection runs to Italian wines, aperitifs, prosecco and dependable favourites behind the bar.
Come to unwind after skiing, celebrate for no particular reason
or raise the last glass that brings dinner to a satisfying close.

Boutique Hotel Entry E

This boutique aparthotel in Bansko brings mountain calm together with the comforts of everyday life. Views of the surrounding peaks and access to the centre and ski slopes make it a useful base. The accommodation is bright and spacious, ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments with a kitchen, living room and terrace with a view.

There’s a touch of Bond in the mountains about it:
an action-packed day, followed by a return to somewhere that has the details in hand. It starts with a generous breakfast of fresh fruit, pancakes and coffee. The on-site Garlic restaurant serves international food with a contemporary approach and vegetarian options, making it an easy choice for a family dinner or an occasion. There’s a spa area, indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym and games area for time off after skiing, cycling or walking. Free private parking, transfers and ski storage add to the convenience. Entry E combines a comfortable place to stay with room for both activity and downtime. It’s a base for a proper mountain break, rather than simply a bed for the night.

Garlic

After skiing, a hike or simply a long day, Garlic gives your appetite a warm welcome. This family restaurant brings Bulgarian and European cooking to the same table. Set in Boutique Hotel Entry E, with an Alpine interior,
it puts the pleasure of a good meal first.
Grilled meat, fresh fish, generous plates and regional wines set the scene. Garlic is big enough for people to gather without feeling noisy: family dinners, long tables and occasions that emerge as the evening goes on. Sometimes the celebration starts only after you sit down.

Lembas Bakery

When we catch the smell of freshly baked bread in Bansko, we know Lembas Bakery can’t be far away. Walking in brings back a little of the excitement of stepping into a grandmother’s kitchen,
because sourdough here is as much a daily rhythm as a technique,
and every slice has something to say. The croissants are properly buttery; focaccia and grilled-cheese sandwiches make a welcome stop between runs. Add blondies, chocolate cookies and speciality coffee that can rescue a sleepy morning. Drop into Lembas for a cup, some co-working time or a short pause on the way to the mountain.
